During a bike tour in Boston, a bike accident severely injured Kellie’s knee. Once she returned home to Florida a few days later, she scheduled an appointment at Memorial Orthopedic Services.
Geden Franck, MD, a primary care sports medicine physician at Memorial Healthcare System, examined Kellie and performed an MRI.
"Her MRI showed that she had a torn ACL, a fractured tibia, and damage to her meniscus," says Dr. Franck. "We came up with a plan to make sure her fracture healed for the first six weeks."
After Kellie's fracture healed, Dr. Franck referred her to Marvin Smith, MD, an orthopedic surgeon, to coordinate her ACL surgery.
"I performed a minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery using small arthroscopic portals and small incisions to repair the damage to her knee," explains Dr. Smith.
The next day, Kellie couldn't believe how easy the operation went and she started physical therapy.
“I feel like I went to sleep, I woke up...and my knee was stable,” said Kellie. “I hadn’t felt that in eight weeks, and I knew that I was on the road to recovery.”
After completing physical therapy, Kellie is back on her bike, walking her dog, and enjoying normal activity again.
“My knee is amazing. Without the help of everybody at Memorial, I’m not sure I would’ve been able to accomplish that.”
